The theory here is the additional vacuum helps the weak rings seal better thus reducing blow by and oil burn. The increased vacuum will also increase Replace the crankcase vent valve, crankcase vent hoses, and dipstick guide tube. The only reason to replace the valve cover is if there is a problem with the PCV system or the cover is cracked. All N54/55 engine valve covers will leak by about 70k miles. And it happens at the lowest point, the right rear of the engine and drips on the exhaust. JohnIBarr01. 595 posts 路 Joined 2012. #3 路 Mar 26, 2012 (Edited) Those are the symptoms of a bad DISA. Just replaced mine this week. ECS Tuning has the OE BMW valve for ~$190. It's literally two T-40 bolts and 15 minutes. And dangit, way to resurrect the dead . It is not normal. I've been here a while and the "burners" are usually the B30 (particularly the early ones), assuming the CCV is in check and no external leaks. The SAP vacuum line typically cracks or crumbles when you try to move it during a VCG change. While the cost of the vacuum line is expensive (~$14 for 3 ft at the stealer), it is clearly not designed for high heat environments. The CCV hoses sit on the intake side of the engine and see less heat. 2. Engine Backfires. If an exhaust valve is bent, it affects how the fumes leave the cylinder. The exhaust valves need to open and close at precise times to ensure the right amount of pressure is always present. A bent exhaust valve can end up in the wrong position. It can also fail to seal properly when closed. Checkout that video by Eric O here:
