With the Great Ocean Road specifically, there are many incredible places to stop along the way. Even with 6 days on the road, we still didn’t feel like we could visit them all. 12 Apostles is great no doubt - however if you have ONE WEEKEND you need to think about what it is you enjoy doing. Really. If it is purely sight seeing then by all means - drive baby drive. But the Great Ocean Road is a slow, winding road - and staring at the ocean is great, for a while. After 6 hours it gets kinda boring.
Tour Buses on the Great Ocean Road . Many tour bus companies travel the Great Ocean Road, and most offer the same basics: a friendly driver, pick-up and drop-off by the tour mini-bus at your hotel, hostel, or one of the several central spots, and (probably) a morning tea break and any entrance fees, like to Otway National Park.
The Grotto. The Grotto is another prime spot to get an Instagrammable shot on the Great Ocean Road. Just a short walk from the car park, the Grotto is a sinkhole that has been opened up by the sea. This has created a unique archway looking out to sea.
Summer (December – February) The weather along the Great Ocean Road is undoubtably the warmest from December to February, with longer days and a decreased chance of rain making this an excellent time to visit. But with the Australian school holidays starting just before Christmas and lasting until early February, this is also the busiest time
. The Cape Otway Lighthouse is the oldest surviving lighthouse on mainland Australia. It is open from 9 am to 5 pm daily. It is a thrilling experience to step out onto the Lighthouse Balcony and hear the incredible history of tragic shipwrecks. The light station is just a short drive off the Great Ocean Road.

Check Great Ocean Road Tours. 1. Teddy’s Lookout. This lookout is located in Lorne and is highly recommended. You’ll see stunning views of hills, St George River and the blue waters along the coast on a high platform. There is a dedicated car park for this lookout and it’s located at the end of George St. 2.
Best time to visit Great Ocean road. The summer months from November through February are ideal for visiting the Great Ocean Road. Not only is the climate suitable for a long drive, but the destinations along the way are also at their scenic best. Travel Tips. If short on time, take the inland route to the twelve apostles.
